Overview
The United Nations Resident Coordinator in China leads the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in advancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the resident and nonresident UN entities to fulfill their country level mandates and responsibilities. The Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) serves the United Nations Country Team to support interagency coordination, strategic planning, and implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, among other functions. The RCO is recruiting an energetic Event Support and Coordination Intern for the RC Office team for six months’ fulltime internship.
Duties and Responsibilities
As an intern, your responsibilities will entail:
Event Support:
Provide support in the organization of events such as international day commemorations, meetings, and seminars with logistical and administrative work. Organize distributions of invitations, greeting cards, and branding materials. Perform database maintenance of partners and invitation lists. Provide logistic support to UNCT and joint UN meetings, such as booking meeting places, preparation of materials, and management of lists of persons coming.
Administrative Coordination Support:
- Officewide logistics support
- Maintenance of the general office email account, response to general inquiries, and forwarding requests to relevant staff.
- Maintenance of the Shared UN Calendar, keeping the calendar updated at all times and distributing it to all relevant offices.
Assist in procurement, subscription, and payment processes. Assist in collection of programmatic and operational data from UN agencies in China.
Qualification and Skills
ONLY Applicants meeting one of the qualifications below will be considered for this internship:
Currently enrolled in or completed a graduate degree (second university degree or higher) or higher; or Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final year of a first university degree programmed (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Additional requirements also include:
Standard software applications proficiency.
Interest in the United Nations’ objectives and activities and commitment to the ideas of the UN Charter.
The ability to interact well with people of different cultural background and religion is also a quality necessary for being selected as an intern. Respect for diversity and not being biased keeps them tolerant of opinions different from their own.
Language Requirements
Fluency in spoken and written English and Chinese is highly desired.
Additional Information
The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. International interns should secure the appropriate visa and work authorization before accepting the internship, if not a citizen or permanent resident of the host country.
